Using a spiral-cut tool on natural wood can make the cutting process smoother, often improving finish quality.
These advantages are particularly beneficial when cutting material that is cross-grained, knotty, or of a "stringy" layered structure.

Spiral Insert Knife Surfacing Heads
Spiral knife insert heads make constant contact with the material offering reduced noise (typically up to 20 dB) and reduced stress on machine spindles. Each carbide insert has four (4) cutting edges. These spiral heads offer special radius edge inserts to reduce any chance of knife corners marking the material. Heads also feature face shear to improve surface quality. Made from 7071-T6 high strength aircraft aluminum. Heads come complete with a set of carbide inserts and a "Torx" wrench for turning and replacing the knives. Additional sizes and bores available.
